Midjourney, DALL-E, or Adobe Firefly for Brand Images
These three get lumped together as "AI image generators," but they're not interchangeable — each was built for a different job, and picking the wrong one for the task is the most common mistake we see.
What each one actually does best
- Midjourney. Still the strongest for pure visual quality and style range — moodboards, concept art, campaign key visuals where the goal is impact, not accuracy to a real product.
- DALL-E. The most straightforward to prompt and, unusually for this category, actually reliable at rendering text inside an image — useful for quick mockups with a headline or a sign.
- Adobe Firefly. The one built for commercial use without a legal question mark — it comes with real licensing indemnification and plugs directly into Photoshop and Illustrator, which matters the moment an image goes into an actual ad campaign.
The question that actually decides it
It's not "which one looks best" — it's "does this need to be legally safe to run as a paid ad." If yes, Firefly is the only serious option among the three. If it's an internal mood board or a one-off social post, Midjourney's quality ceiling is hard to beat. Most agencies that use these tools seriously end up running two, not picking one for everything.
Where none of them belong
Anything showing your actual product, your actual space, or real people needs to be photographed, not generated — AI image tools are convincing at "a coffee shop" and unreliable at "your coffee shop." The moment a generated image needs to represent something real and specific, it stops being a shortcut and starts being a liability if a customer notices it doesn't match reality.
What actually works
AI-generated visuals are strongest for concepting, testing a campaign direction before committing budget to a shoot, and filling gaps — backgrounds, textures, abstract brand imagery — that were never meant to look like a real photograph in the first place. Product shots, team photos, and anything tied to a specific location still need a camera.
