ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini for Brand Copy — What to Use and Why

"Which AI should we use for captions?" comes up in almost every onboarding call now. The honest answer is that all three write competently — the differences that actually matter show up in specific, predictable places, not in overall quality.

Where each one is genuinely strong

  • ChatGPT. The most natural, expressive tone out of the box — it adapts across styles easily and tends to need the least editing for long-form captions or blog-style posts.
  • Claude. Holds a brand's voice guidelines more consistently across a long session, and is noticeably better at not sliding back into generic "AI voice" after the fifth or sixth caption in a row.
  • Gemini. Strongest when the brief involves a lot of source material — long documents, past campaign reports, competitor research — because of how much it can hold in context at once.

Where all three still fail the same way

Every one of them defaults to the same handful of sentence patterns and the same "exciting announcement" energy unless you actively push back on it. None of them knows what already got posted last month, so repetition across a content calendar is a real risk if nobody's checking. And none of them understands your actual customers — a generated caption sounds plausible, but it's a guess dressed up as confidence.

What actually works: a brief, not a blank prompt

The output quality gap between "write me an Instagram caption" and a real brief — audience, tone examples, what NOT to say, the specific goal of the post — is enormous, and it matters more than which model you picked. A detailed brief in ChatGPT beats a lazy prompt in Claude every time.

The realistic workflow

Most brands that get value from this use AI for the first draft and the option-generation — five headline variations, three tones for the same caption — and keep a human doing the final pass for voice, accuracy, and anything that needs actual knowledge of the brand or the moment. Treating any of these tools as a finished-copy machine is where quality drops fastest.
